L.A. "BUD" THOMPSON, R.P.L.S. #3987 TX, Owner

     Mr. Thompson is the owner of Thompson Surveying Company and began his experience in surveying and CAD consulting with the public and private sectors in 1966.  Mr. Thompson has provided surveying services to the commercial retail development market since 1989, including projects from conception to completion involving Boundary, Topographic, Subdivision Platting, and final construction. Commercial retail development is the mainstay of  our business. Mr. Thompson, through direct employment with two large Texas cities,  has increased his sensitivity to the municipal budgetary restraints and helped evolve more efficient and realistic Facility Management approaches. His organizational skills have led to a unique approach to electronic data collection that allows the end-user to manipulate mapping features with substantial time savings.  His ability and proven track record of technological advances in surveying continue to test the limits of hardware and software for land surveying, parcel development and GIS.  Mr. Thompson's experience includes scale mapping of government and industrial projects in CAD environment including right-of-way acquisition, and high precision control surveys by GPS and conventional methods.  He has extensive experience in CAD programming and project specification writing related to municipal and industrial infrastructure mapping systems.  Mr. Thompson's computer experience has provided the high tech edge for competent and efficient completion of projects.
     Mr. Thompson is currently the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors'  Past President, the Past-President of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) Gulf Coast Chapter 9 and is active in teaching the Continuing Education Unit Seminar "The Surveyor and the Internet" for Registered Professional Land Surveyors. Mr. Thompson has extensive knowledge of the Tropical Storm Alison Recovery Project Survey Control and the Harris County Flood Plain Reference Mark System, as well as the history and disposition of the Harris County  Survey Control Monumentation related to horizontal and vertical systems. Mr. Thompson is the principal of the firm and acts as primary contact, team supervisor and coordinator for all projects.
     Mr. Thompson also provides expert witness testimony on select cases in which Professional Surveying "reasonable standards of care" are a key issue.
 

 

TOMMY WOOD, Senior Crew Chief

Mr. Wood has been with Thompson Surveying Company since January 2006 and has shown he equal to the task of Chief of Parties.  His experience includes boundary, topographic, construction, and A. L. T. A. surveys.  He is proficient with Total Station/Data Collection, Robotics Total Station and GPS Real Time Kinematic surveying. Mr. Wood's primary function is that of Chief of Parties and prepares crews for daily work assignments and functions as Survey Technician in assisting the Registered Professional Land Surveyor in preparation of CAD Survey drawings. Mr. Wood is also proficient in the utilization of GPS RTK data gathering to support all levels of projects.

Harold Walker Crew Chief/Instrument Operator

Mr. Walkerl started with Thompson Surveying Company recently and is functioning as a Junior Level Party Chief and as and Instrument Operator.  His experience includes boundary, topographic, construction, and A. L. T. A. surveys.  He has become proficient with Leica Total Station/Data Collection, Robotics Total Station and is currently mastering GPS Real Time Kinematic surveying. Mr. Walker's primary function is that of Junior Party Chief and performs as a part time Team leader on daily work assignments and as Instrument Operator.

Raul Castillo, Survey Technician

Mr. Castill started in land surveying in 1996.  His experience includes boundary, topographic, construction, and A. L. T. A. surveys.  He is proficient with Total Station/Data Collection, Robotics Total Station and GPS Real Time Kinematic surveying. His primary function is that of  Survey Technician and is a qualified Instrument Operator and Party Chief related to Topographic and Boundary surveying and GPS RTK projects.

Office Staff:

JEANETTE E. THOMPSON, Office Manager/Research Assistant

Ms. Thompson has experience in drafting and extensive municipal experience.  In addition to her drafting and design experience, Ms. Thompson holds a degree in legal assistance, a national legal assistance certification, and is an accomplished researcher. 

Currently Thompson Surveying is interviewing for Receptionist position. The position requires experience in handling the day to day office functions including proof reading, time sheets invoicing and proposals. Experience with Corel Word Perfect is a plus. A good professional phone voice and manner and light typing is required.

Additional Personnel:

2. All employees must have a current valid Texas Drivers License in good standing.
3. All employees must have a clean criminal record to enable them to pass a security background check. A felony arrest or weapons charge will be a violation of the security check.
4. All employees are subject to Drug-Alcohol Screening and random testing during employment.
5. All employees will be required to take periodic surveying tests.
6. All new employees must be a permanent full-time resident and citizen of the U.S.

We offer competitive salary and benefit package with increasing benefits for employees after completing their first year. Employees are re-evaluated at the end of 90 days, 180 days and one year and on an annual basis thereafter, unless they have successfully completed a survey relevant college course curriculum. Re-evaluations generally result in an increase in compensation for employees aggressively trying to better the knowledge of the requirements of their employment. Thompson Surveying Company field operations work four each ten-hour days (M-Th). Office Staff operate forty-five hours per week (M-Th and 1/2 day on Friday).
